Geneva College, founded in 1848, is a faith-based institution renowned for its commitment to providing quality education. The Pennsylvania school offers more than 195 programs and majors—many of which are nationally recognized—and caters to a diverse range of academic interests.

Problem

Geneva College’s existing network had been operational for 14 years and needed to be replaced. The environment was complex and had high visitor volume. Due to underdeveloped cybersecurity measures, students with newer devices couldn’t connect securely to the network. Important network hardware on campus was damaged and prevented Wi-Fi from operating smoothly, resulting in issues like inconsistent connection across campus.

CBTS solution

CBTS recommended and integrated Juniper Mist Access Assurance (NAC) and Guest Access, which includes embedded AI features, to verify students, staff, and guests on campus. The new network’s VNA, Marvis, proactively detects threats, learns the environment’s traffic patterns, and troubleshoots issues as they arise. Marvis identified the location of the bad cables without any direction from the IT team.

Outcome

The school successfully deployed the technology while maintaining full network control and has since experienced unprecedented Internet speed and secure access for a wide variety of campus visitors. Students and staff now leverage improved security through the advanced Wi-Fi and AI-enabled network, and high user volume is easily managed. Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems (KCTCS) has 16 colleges and over 80 campuses – provides high-quality education across Kentucky.

Problem

KCTCS’s Wi-Fi network provider altered their business model and pricing structure, which no longer matched the institution’s requirements. This prompted KCTCS to reassess their network requirements and consider future forward solutions. Additionally, KCTCS had difficulty troubleshooting their previous network when they experienced outages. This caused delays in getting the services back up and running.

However, pandemic-related microchip shortages created global obstacles for innovation.
